Clean Beaches a Priority
The United States coast, where the land and rivers meet the sea and great waters, is a special, valuable and complex place. Coastal recreation, maritime commerce, and jobs such as fishing make the coast a vital part of the American way of life. While progress has been made in recent years to protect this great national resource, the safety, health, and environmental conditions of many areas continues to deteriorate. Clean Beaches Council was established to seek solutions to these problems.
Clean Beaches Council Organization
Clean Beaches Council is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization devoted to sustaining America's beaches. The Council was launched in the spring of 1998, the United Nation's "International Year of the Ocean." Since its inception, CBC has developed innovative approaches to coastal management and protection of human health and the environment. Our flagship program is the Blue Wave Campaign - America's first environmental certification program for beaches.
Clean Beaches Council Mission and Vision
The mission of the Council is to promote public awareness and volunteer participation in sustainability while ensuring a legacy of clean beaches for all generations to come.
The Council envisions a global movement to protect earth's pristine coastal regions and promote sustainable habitation between humans and the environment. CBC will be a recognized leader and contributor in that movement.
Clean Beaches Council Coastal Services
Clean Beaches Council works with coastal communities, governments, and organizations to develop and implement effective environmental management practices and services. The primary tool for accomplishing this is the Blue Wave Campaign. Through Blue Wave certification, the Council aims to help the public identify the nation's cleanest, safest and most environmentally well-managed beaches.
For the public, Blue Wave is viewed as a "good housekeeping" stamp of approval for beaches, indicating a quality environment. For beach communities, Blue Wave is used as a form of "eco-label"- signifying a clean and safe destination managed with consideration for the environment.
